The slippers are 'placed' AWAY from the door. Who on earth enters a room and removes 'his or her' slippers like that. The more I analyze it (am quite proficient in this as I've watched countless episodes of CSI LV and NY. really dislike the Miami version though), the more I think Sad Thad made the whole thing up.
