Raffles played an exciting game with a 4-5-1 formation, hoping to make use of our avatar of the Hulk - Jeff....however, we weren't able to hold on to a strong start and let in two cheap goals just minutes apart...

However, we have equaled the scoreline of TH against EH and now move into the next group stage match level with EH on GD and points....

How is it going to pan out this year?

Anyway, it being my final year, I sincerely hope to make it past the semis this year....but it's going to be tough since we are up against last year's winners - Temasek - and our arch-nemesis...Eusoff...

RH 5 - 3 Eusoff Hall

Playing against Eusoff's reserve team, RH managed to notch their first hall friendly win this season! Goals by foreign import Jeff, non hall members Safar and Muru and another by team captain Jerome made sure we ended the match on a high.

However, the blog name actually refers to our IHG wins...in which case, as it has been for the past 5 years...still stands. We have never won a single IHG match for that period. In fact, Ripley's Believe It Or Not Asia has offered to give us a slot on the show.

Their tagline?

"RH hasn't won a single IHG game in 5 years --- Unbelievable? Believe it."

On a much sadder note....I think I'm the only one reading this since I sincerely doubt anyone else actually comes here anymore, but I always believed in keeping a record of our matches...you know...just in case.

So if you still are reading this (you poor thing...obviously nothing better to do with your life), please give me a little love and a small shoutout will ya? Much appreciated.

Well, as of last year, Team RH soccer has risen like a Phoenix from the ashes...

This --- this is a tribute to the semi-finalist of the 2009/2010 soccer IHG.

This is a sign of things to come.

This is a warning to the other challengers that Raffles is on the comeback and there is a grave out there with your name on it.

Will the feat be emulated again this year? It remains to be seen.

Yet, the gauntlet has already been thrown down. Team of 10/11...do YOU have what it takes to be better than the team of last year?

Hello fellow Rafflesians!

It is a brand new start to the IHG season and the best place to catch all the updates, gossip and transfer news is here --- at Raffles Hall's most popular yet surprisingly unknown blog!

For this year, we have a promising batch of new players coming in...as well as the out processing of several players who have served the hall for a long time but not contributed in any significant way....players like Jack, David, Azfar, Safar and Rajiv..

Oh well, their presence isn't really missed.

As it is, the hall soccer team has in its new leadership Mr Jerome Seow....better known as Ms Jerome Seow to some.

And of course, the hall fought hard to retain the services of a certain year 4, one whom they deemed good enough to propel this team into the new era of a WINNING raffles hall team.... After much controversy, they managed to extend my contract for a year...

What!? A Safar Doppelganger has been recently spotted at the comm hall. And this is not the first time it has happened. Apparently, he appears at 11pm every night at Uncle Vincent's. However, this doppelganger ISNT SAFAR. He is PSYCHOTIC! If you see him, stay clear!!

Goals by Khengyong, Jerome and Gabriel ensured a win for RH on this hot sunny Sunday morning.

Although we were lacking some first team players, we managed to field a strong side to maintain our current streak of not losing. However, we can still improve and I hope you guys who played today can take away the lesson of 'playing dirty'.

The other team has been well schooled in the art of it. We have much to learn...

Even I, king of dirty tackles of RH, suffered a yellow card without injuring the opposition whereas they didn't get a single card for leaving me with a bloodied neck and Weiquan with a sprained ankle.

Yet, kudos to our team for managing to break away from the initial 1-1 scoreline to push for the 2nd and 3rd goal. We will need this mentality for the IHG. Keep up the good work guys and remember: The 1st team places are still there for the taking. Make it yours.

RH 4-2 KE7

You must be thinking..."huh? i thot 3-2?" ... but im taking into account that we had one ball tt was cleared whilst it was INSIDE the KE7 net. So..yah.

A powerful header by Jerome, which was fed an insanely beautiful assist by Thaddeus enabled RH to climb back to 2-1 after being clobbered by the beast of KE7 who scored the first 2 goals.

Boosted by the goal, RH scored another one later through KeeYong who has been proving himself to be RH's Valencia and our terror down the left flank.

A penalty by Safar, in a bid to make up for his penalty miss in the IFG for Science, brought the score up to 3-2!!

Confident passing throughout the pitch as well as a tight defence after the first 2 goals allowed us to clock another win.

Guys, don't let this get to your heads, the ball is round. However, at the same time, use this win to propel your confidence in our hall and in the belief that we can achieve great things this year if we stick together as a team.

In the recently concluded Female Soccer IHG, though we didn't perform as well as we would have liked, but one of our members have earned RH the dubious honour of being the most vicious hall in NUS.

Due to lack of writing material due to a lack of male trainings....and matches, I've decided to include the female friendlies as well... Shameless advertising to get the blog numbers up on my part I concede.

RH started the match well with a fantastic lineup that included the famous referee - Me - against the Oranjes.

We were able to convert a lone chance through a fantastic shot by Star player Tiffany who was easily the best player of the match. Sheares...not wanting to give up....equalised just before the half.

I must add that SH's coach was the famous four lunged korean Minwoo of IHG fame who famously outpaced Ex-RH Captain Jack, thus putting him to shame... More info can be found on THEIR blog, you just have to google it.

Anyway, a corner by the Oranjes was converted by RH into the back of our net. 2-1!

As it is, I biasedly gave RH a freekick near their goal (shhh) but Tiffany was unable to convert it.

Oh well.... If you want to see the RH female soccer babes in the flesh, come down this Sunday to support them!! =)

Amazingg.....how much free time we have. The blog has reached its 100th post, officially making it RH's most obscure popular blog!!

I wanna thank all you loyal fans of the RH soccer team as well as all past contributors. Of course, I'm writing this coz I have a terrible toothache and I can't sleep.

Anyway, female soccer's IHG is this coming Sunday starting from about 10am. So guys who wanna drool over our lovely RH female soccer team or ogle at the girls from other halls, please turn up and show your support for your sister sport.

And of course, you needn't ask....your favourite manager will be there --- me.

RH 2-2 Some Pasir Panjang Club Again

Yes, this game is still fresh in my mind, unlike my previous post which was long overdue. I had better things to do in Turkey.

Anyway, in the exciting rematch against the same Pasir Panjang club, they managed to open the scoring just after the kickoff. However, a plucky RH team picked themselves up to equalise just before the 1st half through a beautifully taken free kick THREE FEET away from their goal by our new import --- ex-SAJC captain --- Louis.

Of course, the man-of-the-match was awarded to Thaddeus Kan for his beautiful 2nd goal. A sweet left legged shot into the top corner of the net from outside the penalty box. Even the opponents had to applaud.

However, in order to give others a chance, and not because he was tired or shag or whatever, he subbed himself out. Thus, the opponents were able to score another (Is it an own goal by Khairul?), thereby leveling the score at 2-all.

It is to be noted however, that Raffles Hall has not lost in 3 games. A remarkable feat considering the name of our blog.

Although I can't remember much...What's important is that I played.

Oh, 2 goals courtesy of Sexy Karthik and one from our captain Wuyao. And a cheap goal conceded by Kaixiang.

And, a stellar performance by Shaun Goh. =)

Of course, this win wouldn't have been possible if not for Jack and Safar and Shengjie, and Keeyong and duno hu else not turning up. HAHA.

I was with Shaun today when he duly informed me that Singapore is host to 2 different kinds of squirrels....

The err..Plantain Squirrel and the SLANDER squirrel. It is the latter that I am concerned about. It is popularly known that this specific variant of squirrel has no friends in the animal kingdom and we can easily see why.

Together with Outlaw Otter and Malign Monkey, Slander Squirrel and his gang roams the forests of singapore and are highly sought after by the SPCA for crimes against other animals. If you see him, give the SPCA a ring at 62875355.

Final Years 4-3 Rest of the World (aka Non Final Years)

In what was a thrilling match between the fantastic Final Years and the roving Rest of the World, the Final Years emerged victors with a nail-biting scoreline of 4-3.

Following the usual testimonial match pleasantries --- that of unpreparedness and an unusual high scoring game --- 'Testimonial for Thiang' turned out to be an exciting affair. With the final years starting with a depleted team, made all the more depleted with Gant as a stand-in keeper, we managed to start the scoring through a series of moves starting with the very dubious handball by ROTW's Khairul...and was finished off subtely by Final Year's non final year, Ngoi Cin Heng.

However, the first 5min of the match turned out to be a very scrappy affair....with multiples errors and crappy passing, compounded by former-past-his-prime-RH-captain Jack. Yet, even so, his ex-roomie Thiang managed to squeeze in another goal just after the first. 2-0 up!

The ROTW, refusing to back down, took advantage of a horrible decision by makeshift keeper Gant who in his hesitation to clear the ball, ended up whacking his own teammate Azfar, thus gifting the ball for the opponents to pop it through an empty net. In his defense however, he was injured and wearing white, which would cause him to look very muddy if he actually did any work. 2-1!!

Towards the end of the first half, Shaun Goh dazzled his way down the right (able to do so only because of a extremely competent rightback who was covering him...ME) and slotted in another goal through PRC keeper Liu Siyan who could only watch haplessly as the ball kissed the back of the net. 3-1 and no looking back!!

BEEP!!! HALFTIME....it must be said at this point that Ex-RH Ronaldinho Chai Mingjie came late...and did little to help boost the team's attack in any way.

BEEP!! As Keane (Yes...missed-open-goal-against-SH Keane) blew the whistle to kick start the 2nd half.

As fatigue set in, the plays of both teams became sluggish and slow. This culminated in Jack missing a beautifully set ball and sent it ballooning over the goalpost.

ROTW managed another goal by someone whom I forgot to send the scoreline to 3-2. OoO...Exciting....

Ex-RH avatar of Alonso --- Tito --- was a midfield general. Distributing plays, making tackles....Why didn't I start him for IHG last year? Anyway....everyone was really tired. However, one dark man stood out like a bright light --- Safar. He terrorised the ROTW's defence and together with Shaun, made many pissed in their pants. Not amazingly, he dribbled past 3 defenders and put the ball through ROTW keeper Kaixiang's legs for FY's 4th goal....

4--2!!!

But it wasn't over. Not yet. Present El Capitan, Wuyao, wasn't going to let go of the match so easily. With a flash of brilliance, he skipped past Tito and Safar....to ensure a 1 on 1 with Gant. After making some gay eye-to-eye contact with Gant, he flashed the ball past him...4-3!!

Of course, it isn't a testimonial match if there wasn't any drama and this came 3min from the end as Thiang, who scored an earlier goal, collapsed to the floor in agony. Was it a weak heart? No. It was merely a cramp that left him in terrible pain. "Jack Jack!! HELP!" He cried. Jack's first instinct was to call Vanessa...no, not for first aid....but to take pictures of this helpless man.

"AHhhhh!!!" Guochuan screamed.
"Faster faster!" Jack shouted to Vanessa.

Oh...the drama that ensued.

Anyway, the match ended not long after and we had free red bulls from the pretty red bull girls.

Hello Guys!! It has been brought to my attention that a fellow hardcourt enthusiast and one-time RH soccer player is graduating this Sem. His name is Thiang Guo Chuan and he is my beloved roomie. Therefore, if you guys are game, I would like to propose a field session on next Saturday's morning.

To honour those graduating or probable graduates this year, I wanna propose:

Yes yes, the finals years are challenging the ROTW (rest of the world) to a GAME. C'mon, we need to play for fun wad...some bonding session.

There was a sense of anticipation. A moment of silence. The whistle blew. A thrilling match ensued.

In what was supposed to be a morale boosting game for TH turned out to be a torrid affair for the normally ranked top 3 hall in NUS for soccer.

TH scored early with some slick passing and some horrid defending from the RH team. In truth, the 1st 3rd was rather terrible for RH with the only moment of excitement coming from a beautiful shot by Thaddeus out of the box only for the keeper to tip it over.

The 2nd half saw us equalising with a curling corner from one of the lion kings 'safar' in what I think was a fluke..but who cares when it's a goal...especially when it was the first one against a NUS Hall this year! However, not to be outdone, TH scored back to make the score 2-1 in what truly was an exciting match.

To boost the team, the subs of Jack n Lloyd were made. Lloyd being the rock on the right hand side whereas Jack's role was to make TH complacent. The sight of Jack warming up on the touchline already brought smiles to the THians faces. However, Jack had a moment of brilliance when he made a long run up and proceeded to connect with the ball for a volley which glanced off the face of the goal. When will he score for RH?

It must be mentioned at this point that Thaddeus played the first two halves and was only subbed out to let others have a chance. And also, that Jack told me to write about him so next time, if u wanna be included, tell me. Anyway, an opportunistic shot by Weiquan caught the TH keeper off-guard and ensured a thunderous roar from the RH supporters. Could we FINALLY CHANGE OUR BLOG NAME? With the score levelled at 2-2, it was anybody's guess.

Yet, the game ended as such. However, it was a lesson learnt by the opponents that RH is a force to be reckoned with this year. With new transfers and buys, we have become a Man-City of sorts and still, our team is set to become even stronger with new transfer rumours this coming window.

We'll register our first win soon.

Sheares Hall.....Are YOU RHeady?

The tension for an epic battle is building up with the final war cry due this Sunday.... Yes! It is the annual affair of RH vs SH and oh what an affair it has been!!

I still remember the day in which we were trounced 2-0 on a muddy, wet field in ulu woodlands 2 years ago....and how they steely held on to a draw in last year's IHG. The truth is undeniable --- We are getting closer to nicking our first win against Sheares...

In truth, I've always considered Sheares to be RH's "brother hall". Much of this truth being rooted in the fact that like us....they have a shambolic soccer team as well as a over-zealous handball squad. Truth be told, they are somewhat like Holland.....Cool orange jerseys and not much else.

So I ask of you --- those who are obviously free enough to read this post --- ARE YOU PREPARED TO DO BATTLE?

I know I ain't. I'm busy this Sunday. =)

Lloyd has issued the soccer team a challenge....some dumbass stair training for the track team and he wants us to be there.

RH 2-3 Some Pasir Panjang Club (20/9)

SRC - Raffles Hall had its first soccer friendly of the year in a spectacular matchup with the opponents of Some Pasir Panjang Club.

Although the turnout was poor, the spirits were high as RH raced to open the scoring floodgates with a superb goal by somebody whose name I've forgotten.

The opponents, not to be outdone, came back 3 goals by half time. However, 2 of the goals were highly disputable due to the lack of a linesman. Yet, the 1st goal was a class act, with their speedy winger cutting in from the right leaving Jack for dead before unleashing a defence splitting pass between Lloyd and someone for their striker to finish off.

Because of their ineptness --- both Jack and Thaddeus were sidelined for the 2nd half.

To curb their attacking madness, RH decided to unleash their secret weapon --- Shaun Goh --- who was kept under wraps for 4 years. Using his stored up power since his freshman year, Shaun took the ball and turned their defence inside out....and outside in for good measure. His defensive duties were also carried out in an exemplary fashion.

RH fought back hard and were dominating the match towards the end due to the opponent's fatigue and probably, awesome awe of RH's power. We came close to leveling the score by making it 3-2 but just as we were about the score the 3rd goal, the whistle blew.

Yet, the passing was good, the attack was good, the defence was hard. It was truly an enjoyable match... Special mention to our 2 newcomers Yang and Quan....the more than 1/2 of Yang ZhouQuan who played a spectacular 1st match for RH.

Watch out.......RH is on track for the IH Gold. =)

Thaddeus Kan is Cesc Fabregas. Young captain. Wonderkid 3 years ago, but never really improved. Wanted to leave for club in orange (Barca and Sheares). Not good enough for the national (NUS) team.

Haha, I would like to make a formal apology to all those whose names haven't had the opportunity as yet to be mangled, wrecked and twisted by the sadistic blog writers.

Like Sri Ram...I would like to do a quiz about him...but....I can't for the entire world find a pic that rhymes with 'SRI' so too bad. I did give it a minute of thought though....

Are the renovations provoking the ghosts of Raffles Hall? Is there something lurking around the corner? Read on and decide for yourself...

I stay in the non-RF, block 5 split. It was around 2am or so on Wednesday morning and I have had a little too much to drink and was in need for a little relief so I went down to the 1st floor toilet (the one on the water cooler side) for a leak.

The lights switched on as I entered the toilet, a fact I surmised from my action of tripping the motion detector. All was fine and I had my leak and thus --- normally, I must add --- proceeded to the sink to wash my hands.

Now, for those of you who know, there are mirrors in front of the sinks and these can get quite creepy at times especially when you reside in one of the most tradition-steeped and historically-rich halls in NUS. Goodness knows what might have happened within the hallowed rows of toilets in the past... Anyway, the mirrors were normal. Just wanted to state a point...

Anyway, as I was washing my hands, I realised there existed the sound of a running shower and to make matters worse, it was the last cubicle. THE LAST CUBICLE.

Darn it...why must ghosts always choose the final cubicle? Isn't it getting obvious?

At the same time, I was weighing the cost of 'Seeing Ghost' vs 'Saving Gaia'.

But anyway, I guessed curiosity got the better of me and I decided to go off the shower. As I walked towards the cubicle, I was in a state of trepidation and my heart was racing a little. No thanks to the Russell Lee's True Ghost Stories.

I cross my heart that I'm not making any of this up...

I pushed open the half -shut door to find the movable showerhead on its stand, water spewing out of it albeit at a half-hearted speed, it's trajectory reaching about halfway through the cubicle. I did the logical thing of skirting through from the side and as I looked at the tap, I was confounded...It was at a 45 degree angle!! My brain raced for an answer...turn up to off....or down?

I turned it down and got a good soaking at 2am in the morning.

Sure sure...laugh all you want but tell me this...

Who turned on the tap at 2am in the morning ?

We've got a glimpse of the immense potential of transfer targets Muru and Safar on friday night...the question is...can we lure them to R.H.F.C?

Already, we have had our midfield master Chai Mingjie leaving the club due to age restrictions as well as our dynamo in defence Tito being transferred to PGPFC. If that wasn't enough, further damage to the integrity of the squad in the form of an extended overseas stint for Adit Barbel and Mario and a temporary loan for our very own dumbbell-on-legs Azfar has shaken the foundations of our club.

How are we going to tide through this choppy times??

The Lion Kings --- Safar, Muru, Rajev --- provided a little glimpse of the change that is to come at RH in the near future.

Their telepathic passes, sizzling runs and mesmerizing runs made the usually impenetrable Raffles Hall team seem as though they were KE7 for a moment.

Also gracing the occasion was combined uni player Manfred Tan. It was truly a tremendous testimonial of sorts.

However, special mention must be given to 2 players...

Our very own Rajev Simba was a force to be reckoned with. Ok, so Simba isn't really his surname and I think I spelled Rajev wrongly but he really possesses a Lion's strong heart...and golden mane.

Next on the list is Safar Scar. Yea, this is the same guy who demolished RH at the arts open finals 2 years back after he got passed star defender Thaddeus before placing the ball sublimely into the back of the net. How that happened is a mystery...not the goal but the getting past Thaddeus. Aiya, I no mood to say anymore already.

Alright, our last soon-to-be Rafflesian, Muru Mufasa...hasn't been touched on not because he wasn't fantastic.. Nono, don't get me wrong. I've omitted his laurels because he is my friend and I'm too lazy to type anymore... No offense.

A voyeuristic shot of the half-naked specie of homo-angmohrus was caught by Thaddeus Kan on the 1st of April at 1400hrs.

This was a rare moment as it is only the 2nd documented picture of the species in the wild.

The Homo-Angmohrus, or more commonly as 'Chao AngMoh', are a migratory species that are spread out over the globe but they tend to agglomerate in large numbers on the western side of the earth. However, it has been noted that for 9 months every year, during the period of Aug - May, they tend to migrate towards the warmer climates of the east. Singapore is an especially popular place with these creatures.

The picture above depicts one soaking up the sun, akin to how crocodiles have to sunbathe in order to increase their body temperatures. Angmohs however, typically engage in this ritual for the purpose of copulation. It has been theorised by animal behaviourlogists that the species use the tan gained in the process in the hope that it will increase their chances of finding a mate. This however, has not been proven.

Now, the photo above is abit unusual in that it is general fact that Angmohs can't read and therefore to capture one holding a book and pretending to read can only lead us to the conclusion that this particular subject is a trained animal and probably escaped from a circus from Raffles Place where many circuses 'employ' this particular species to sit and pretend to do work all day.

D&D.......and hardcourt soccer!

Arr...so we have Adit, Thaddeus, Mingjie, Mario, Michael, Azfar and David at our table already...not to mention Tito... This makes this the best soccer turnout for a D&D ever!!! Obviously, since we have already rigged the lucky draw such that we're gonna claim the top prizes (thanks Shaun), the dinner turns out to be almost free for us.

Oh, and hardcourt soccer today....was fantastic. We managed to attain the elusive 'optimum' number! Keep it up!!! See you guys on thursday...when we can maintain our lean figure in a game of intensive soccer!!

Amplitude cooking show starring chef (wannabe) Gant...

OMG....horror upon horrors! Our versatile reserve left-back cum manager aka Gant, was spotted yesterday at Amplitude singing, waitt....no...beatboxing for the RHchoir. Surprisingly, in addition to being a pretty good bench warmer, he is half a decent beatboxer as well!

Unfortunately, just as all RHafflesians(sorry , i had to use that!) were about to applaud the half-past-six beatboxer, he did a move that stumped all who were present into silence. Using the mic as a erm..cucumber, he deftly moved his other hand over the mic/cucumber several times, mimicking a slicing and dicing move only seen in HongKong martial arts/cooking movies. Stephen Chow would have been so proud. We now know our formidable and multi-talented bench warmer/team manager/beatboxer has another talent.

In other news, the KR acapella group has a guy whom we thought was chengwei. Closer inspection revealed that it was a lookalike though. Don't ask me why I added this piece of useless information in. TK thought I should add this piece of news in. Go find him.

Last piece of news, the soccer table has been booked. We have 6 people at the soccer table. find 4 more. Payment to be made to Thaddeus latest by Tuesday next week. $40 per person. Please, if you haven't booked your place already, book your seats now to show your support for our left-back jack. Rotten eggs and vegetables can be given complimentary from the hotel kitchen, just ask the kind waiters on hand. :)

D&D! JACK IN PAGEANT!?

A certain Mr Goh had been selected for the upcoming Raffles D&D pageant, leading many to wonder...ARE THE ORGANISERS BLIND!?

This lack of foresight will probably cause multiple repercussions including: a decrease in the number of people attending; the quality of food; the number of vomit bags issued and lastly, the number of homosexuals attending the dinner.

I mean...why have food of high quality when it's going to come out anyway?!

As such, I propose that the D&D be held at the hardcourt instead, it makes cleaning up easier.

That being said, I sincerely hope that you soccer guys will come down and support our fellow member --- no matter how well disliked he is --- and give him your fullest encouragement. At least, Jack will have a shoulder to cry on when he loses.

We stand a better chance next year!
